Description : Paola Taroni is Full Professor of Physics at Politecnico di Milano (Milano, Italy).
Her research activity focuses on the development of table-top and portable photonics systems for time-resolved spectroscopy and imaging, and on their applications for diagnostic purposes in medicine and biology. She has long worked on time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging, and more recently on time domain diffuse optical spectroscopy for the non-invasive characterization of biological tissues, with special focus on the non-invasive management of breast cancer (including diagnosis, assessment of cancer risk, and therapy monitoring), and to investigate the potential of diffuse optics to probe the lungs and to monitor cardiovascular diseases.
