Final Workshop of the I-PHOQS Project
23 April 2026Science is often associated with complex equations, abstract concepts, and highly specialized research environments. Yet the ideas shaping the technologies of tomorrow can also be shared through creativity and storytelling. This is the spirit behind “The Quantum Photonics Issue,” a new scientific comic developed as part of the outreach initiatives of the I‑PHOQS Infrastructure.
Quantum photonics—the science of controlling and using individual particles of light—lies at the heart of emerging technologies such as quantum communication, quantum sensing, and photonic quantum computing. While these fields are rapidly advancing within research laboratories, they can sometimes feel distant or inaccessible to the broader public. “The Quantum Photonics Issue” is created to bridge this gap and stimulate curiosity in scientific-enthusiast readers. By combining accurate scientific concepts with engaging visual storytelling, the comic invites readers of all backgrounds to explore the fascinating world of quantum light.
The project was developed by the I-PHOQS Communication Team in collaboration w ith Comics&Science, an editorial project of Symmaceo Communications and part of a series published by CNR Edizioni, the publishing label of the Italian National Research Council. With “The Quantum Photonics Issue” the I‑PHOQS Infrastructure embraces the creative approach of Comics&Science, demonstrating that cutting-edge research can be communicated in ways that are both rigorous and imaginative.
“The Quantum Photonics Issue” opens a window onto a field where light behaves in extraordinary ways and where scientific imagination meets technological possibility. Whether you are a student, educator, science enthusiast, or simply curious about how quantum technologies may transform our future, this comic offers a unique and enjoyable entry point into the world of quantum photonics.
Through initiatives like this, the I‑PHOQS Infrastructure continues to expand the reach of scientific knowledge—showing that even the most advanced research can be shared through creativity, storytelling, and a spark of curiosity.
The Quantum Photonics Issue will be officially presented at the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino on May 16th at 13:00, together with the authors and members of the I-PHOQS Infrastructure communication team. Join us there to receive your free copy of the book!
